About FedEx Freight Overnight Dock Operations
When the last city driver returns in the evening, the FedEx Freight night dock crew takes over. Overnight dock workers process the heaviest freight volume of the day — receiving inbound linehaul trailers arriving from across the network, sorting thousands of shipments by destination, and building outbound loads for morning P&D dispatch. The night dock is the highest-intensity shift at any FedEx Freight service center, and the workers who run it earn premium overnight pay for keeping the network on schedule.
Position Overview
FedEx Freight is hiring Night Dock Workers for the overnight shift at service center facilities. Working approximately 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, you will process inbound linehaul freight, sort shipments into destination lanes, and build outbound trailer loads for next-day delivery dispatch. This is the highest-volume dock shift with premium overnight pay differentials.
Key Responsibilities
- Unload inbound linehaul trailers arriving throughout the night from origin terminals across the network.
- Sort all received freight by destination service center code and stage in correct dock lanes using forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Build tight, damage-free outbound loads in P&D trailers staged for early morning driver departure.
- Process cross-dock freight that requires immediate transfer between inbound and outbound trailers without staging.
- Complete end-of-shift dock reconciliation counts and report discrepancies to the overnight supervisor.
Qualifications & Benefits
Must be 18+ with reliable overnight transportation. No prior dock experience required — FedEx provides forklift training and certification. Must lift 75+ lbs and work in a dock environment with exposure to weather at open trailer doors. FedEx Freight offers premium overnight dock pay with shift differentials, full medical/dental/vision, pension, 401(k), tuition reimbursement, and advancement into day shift and supervisory roles.
